The right approach
Nobody likes thinking about cutting funds to K-12 education in any state, county or town but with current revenue streams dwindling and continued attacks on fossil fuels, Wyoming as a whole has no other choice.
Despite the unpleasant taste cutting funding for the youth’s education leaves in everyone’s mouth, especially those who have dedicated their lives to the task, we applaud Weston County School District No. 1 for acnowledging the need to look at all options. Not only has Superintendent Brad LaCroix made it very clear that nothing is off the table as far as cuts go, he has been adament that the process has only just begun.
Not only is the board of trusttees holding their annual board retreat this year, where the budget and funding cuts will be a major topic of discussion, they have already scheduled workshops for the board to gather and comb through their options.
The board has also made it very clear that while they must protect the individuals that are behind the programs that may receive the ax, they understand the need for transparency and plan to do their best to keep stakeholders in the loop.
There is no solution to the impending issue of education funding in the state that will please everyone. We as citizens must remember that the local school board, administrators and educators are only doing what they must to continue to educate our children and we must do our best to encourage them along the way.
