Reynolds Wins Men’s Most Outstanding Field Performance, 4x400-Meter Relays Enter Record Book

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (March 1, 2025) – Senior Daniel Reynolds won the men’s Most Outstanding Field Performance award after completing the sweep in the throw events as Wyoming totaled 25 personal bests and 12 Top-10 program times to close the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships, Saturday.
The final day of the championships started with the men’s shot put with five Cowboys in competition. Reynolds, who openly admitted that this was not his best event, still went on to win with a personal-best toss of 62’ 6” (19.05 meters), three feet over his previous best. This mark moved him up to No. 3 in indoor school history and tied the No. 23 mark this season.
Junior Cam Burkett came out strong and finished fourth with a throw of 58’ 7 1/4" (17.86 meters). Freshman Charles LaFore came in sixth and after reaching his second final of the championships. He threw a distance of 56’ 10” (17.32 meters), a personal best. Junior Gage Griffith finished eighth with a throw of 54’ 10” (16.71 meters) on his third attempt. Freshman Quinn Lindsay, while not making the final, finished in 12th with a throw of 47’ 3 3/4" (14.42 meters) in his first MW championship.
In the women’s shot put, sophomore Kais Kimuli took 11th with her first throw of 43’ 4 1/2” (13.22 meters). Freshman Teagan Becker saw her first MW championships but fouled on her three attempts.
In the men’s and women’s triple jump, two Pokes saw action. For the men, sophomore Christian Edwards took ninth with his new personal-best jump of 44’ 9 3/4" (13.66 meters). On the women’s side, junior Elayna Chafee finished 13th with a leap of 38’ 2” (11.63 meters).
All track events on the day were finals competition, and to start, senior Jaheim Ferguson ran to a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. He finished with a time of 8.35 for two team points.
In the 60-meter final, junior Carter McComb finished with a time of 6.85 for seventh, adding two points.
Two Cowboys ran in the men’s 400-meter final. In fifth, freshman Bradley Ekstrom ran a time of 47.81 while sophomore Cody Hape finished in seventh with a time of 48.19. Together, they earned the Cowboys six points.
Freshman Taliah Morris entered the 200-meter final and took eighth with a time of 23.80. Over the championship, she totaled two points for the Cowgirls, including a program record in the 200 meters.
In the women’s 800-meter final, junior Libby Berryhill-Worshek finished with a time of 2:16.99 for eighth overall and one team point.
In the last individual events, the Cowgirls and Cowboys ran in the 3,000 meters. In the women’s final, senior Kylie Simshauser was the first finisher for Wyoming, coming in 14th with a time of 9:47.12. Senior Abigail Whitman finished in 16th with a personal-best time of 9:33.13, after altitude conversions, for the No. 6 in program history. Other finishers were graduate Marina Trave Ferrer with a time of 10:12.42 and junior Rozlyn Slichko finishing at 10:17.53.
In the men’s 3,000-meter, junior Jacob White was the top Cowboy finisher, and the only non-New Mexico runner in the Top-6. His time of 7:49.17, after conversions, is the new No. 1 time in school history and holds the No. 35 time in the NCAA this season.
Other top finishers were senior Mason Norman in 12th with a time of 8:13.22, senior Gus McIntyre crossing the line at 8:19.22 and junior Ryker Holtzen running a time of 8:23.37.
The championship meet ended with the women’s and men’s 4x400-meter relay. On the women’s side, the Cowgirl team of sophomore Gabreielle Mendoza-Molina, freshman Megan Witkiewicz, senior Gabby Drube and freshman Eva Dellorco ran to a fifth-place finish in 3:41.50. Their time ranks No. 3 in indoor school history.
The men’s 4x400-meter Relay took the only podium for Wyoming on the track with their third-place finish time of 3:12.36. This time, set by Hape, Ferguson, freshman Logan Brown and Ekstrom, marks the new indoor program record.
Cowboys earned 72 points for a fourth-place team finish, their highest since the 2022 championships while the Cowgirls totaled 10.5 points.
