INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 4, 2025) – Senior thrower Daniel Reynolds earned the top qualifying spot in the men’s weight throw for the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
Reynolds jumped out to the nation’s lead for the first time this season and secured his bid after uncorking a Mountain West winning throw of 82’ 2 3/4" (25.06 meters). This mark is now the No. 3 throw in collegiate history, only behind Michael Lihrman’s (Wisconsin) 25.58 meters in the 2015 season and Kibwe Johnson’s (Ashland) throw of 25.08 meters from 2007.
Reynolds looks to complete his undefeated season and become just the fourth in Wyoming track and field history to win a national championship, with the three winners being Wesley Maiyo (1,000-meter) in 1974, Ryan Butler (Weight Throw) in 1996 and Shauna Smith (400-meter Hurdles) in 2005.
The Indoor Championship will be held March 14 and 15, at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. This will be the first time the D-I championship will be held in Virginia Beach after D-II and D-III called it home over the last two seasons.
The championship meet will air on the ESPN family of networks with the men’s weight throw scheduled for Friday, March 14, at 4:05 p.m. MT.
