Reynolds Sets World Best, Four Others Enter Wyoming Top-10 Lists

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. & SEATTLE (February 4, 2025) – The University of Wyoming track and field program finished the first day at the Don Kirby Invitational with 10 personal bests, two program Top-10s and a world-best weight throw while three distance runners set personal bests with three Top-10 time at the Husky Classic, Friday evening.

The day in Albuquerque began on the field, and like every meet, the weight throw turned into a premier showcase of talent. Senior thrower Daniel Reynolds broke three records, the Wyoming program, Mountain West and the world two turn weight throw. His throw of 81’ 1 1/4” (24.72 meters) tied the No. 9 All-Time throw in U.S. history, was the No. 4 All-Time collegiate throw and was just six inches off the NCAA lead this season.
Freshman thrower Charles LaFore also had a record-setting day with his weight throw of 63’ 6” (19.35 meters), breaking the Wyoming freshman record with a personal-best throw.
In the women’s long jump, freshman Taliah Morris set a personal best with her jump of 19’ 3 1/2” (5.88 meters), good for No. 7 in school indoor history. Other finishers were senior Joan Easter with a distance of 18’ 2 1/2" (5.55 meters), junior Elayna Chafee at 17’ 2 1/4" (5.24 meters) and freshman Koi Adderley with a jump of 17’ (5.18 meters.)
Adderley also competed in the high jump where she placed 13th with a height clearance of 5’ 3 3/4” (1.62 meters).
In the men’s long jump, senior Kareem Mersal had the top Cowboy-finish with his fifth-place jump of 24’ 10” (7.57 meters). Finishing next for the men was sophomore Christian Edwards with a distance of 22’ 3 1/2" (6.79 meters).
On the track, the day began with the men’s 200-meter unseeded dash. The first finisher for the Cowboys was senior Jaheim Ferguson with an altitude converted time of 22.29 while freshman Logan Brown finished after him with a personal-best time of 22.41, after altitude conversions.
In the women’s 200-meter unseeded, all three Cowgirls set personal-best times. Freshmen Megan Witkiewicz, Madeline Thorne and Lily McDowell finished with times of 25.18, 25.24 and 25.39, respectively with altitude conversions.
Brown recorded his second PR of the day with his time of 49.81 in the men’s 400-meter unseeded dash. Sophomore Cody Hape ran a time of 48.69 as the top finisher for Wyoming, after conversions.
In the women’s 400-meter unseeded dash, two Cowgirls posted personal bests. Finishing in 20th, sophomore Gabbreiella Mendoza-Molina crossed the line at 55.97 while senior Gabby Drube came in 26th with a time of 56.26, after conversions. Other finishers were McDowell with a time of 57.71 and Thorne finishing at 58.20.
Senior Paige Sefried finished seventh in the women’s 600-meter with a time of 1:36.07.
Two Wyoming sprinters competed in the 200-meter invite. For the women, Morris ran to a 13th-place finish with a time of 24.33 while junior Gavin Cougle also finished 13th in the men’s 200-meter at 21.94, all with altitude conversions.
HUSKY CLASSIC
The first event for Wyoming in Seattle was the women’s 3,000-meter run. Senior Abigail Whitman finished first for the Cowgirls with her time of 9:45.05 while junior Rozlyn Slichko ran a personal-best time of 9:52.46.
In the men’s 3,000-meter, senior Ryker Holtzen finished with a program No. 2 and personal-best time of 7:55.27, good for 31st overall. Coming in right after Holtzen was junior Jacob White in 33rd with his time of 7:55.70.
Wyoming ran three events for the 5,000-meter run. For the women, senior Kylie Simshauser came in 23rd with a time of 16:37.41 and graduate Marina Trave Ferrer crossed the line 31st at 17:03.85.
In the men’s 5,000-meter, senior Gus McIntyre ran a personal-best time of 13:58.69, good for seventh and moved him up to No. 4 in school history. For the men’s 5,000-meter invite, senior Mason Norman ran to 13th with a time of 14:01.30 while junior Dylan van der Hock finished 16th with the program No. 9 time at 14:16.01.
UP NEXT
Both meets continue tomorrow with action starting in Albuquerque, N.M., at 9:30 a.m. with the women’s 60-meter hurdles prelims. On day two at the Husky Classic, Wyoming will only run in the men’s and women’s mile starting at 11:55 a.m. MT.
