COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 18, 2025) – Senior thrower Daniel Reynolds has been named the Mountain West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this season and the fifth over his career, the conference office announced Tuesday. He is the first Cowboy in over 10 years to win the award four times in a single season.
Reynolds put himself in place for this honor after a world record-setting day at the Don Kirby Invitational. In the weight throw, he set the world’s best two turn, tied for No. 9 in U.S. history, moved up to No. 4 collegiately and broke the Wyoming and Mountain West weight throw records with a massive throw of 81’ 1 1/4" (24.72 meters), just six inches shy of the NCAA lead this season.
As stated before, this is the first time a Cowboy has won the award four times in a season in over 10 years, the last happening when thrower Mason Finley won four times in the 2014 outdoor season. Over his career, the school shot put record holder was named MW Athlete of the Week eight times.
Reynolds previously won Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 10, Jan. 30 and Feb. 4 of this season and April 16 of the 2024 outdoor season.
You can see Reynolds and the rest of the track and field team next weekend, Feb. 27 to March 1, at the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
