The July 4 death of Jimmy Long left a vacancy on the Weston County Health Services board of trustees. The board voted on Sept. 19 to appoint Dr. Lanny Reimer to fill the remainder of Long’s term.
During the board’s Aug. 15 meeting, hospital CEO Maureen Cadwell reported that Reimer had submitted the only letter of interest for the position and that he had submitted it after the deadline.
The board then voted to extend the deadline to potentially spark more interest.  Extending the deadline for another month, which was advertised, did not attract additional applications.
Cadwell said that Reimer had served on the board until 2010.
Reimer is a Newcastle native and began his medical career in the Weston County community in 1979, practicing in both Newcastle and Upton after graduating from the University of Colorado in 1976, according to the Regional Health Network website.
Reimer still practices family medicine in the community as a physician with the Regional Health Network in the Newcastle clinic.
“Lanny Reimer, MD, is very committed to the health care of Weston County. He has been a physician here for over 30 years and has shown that he wants to make sure health care is sustainable for our area,” Cadwell said in an email, when asked why Reimer was a good fit for the board. “His clinical background will also add to the progression of health care in our area.”
