The Newcastle Dogies track and field team turned in one of its strongest performances of the season at the 2026 Bulldog Invite, highlighted by a school-record performance fro sophomore Landen Hill and a state-qualifying relay effort from the boys 4x100-meter team.
Coach Matt Conzelman said the team is carrying momentum into this week’s 3A East Regional meet in Glenrock.
“Good week for the Dogies,” Conzelman said. “Looking at using this momentum going into 3A East Regionals this next week on Friday and Saturday.”
Hill broke a long-standing Newcastle High School high jump record by clearing 6-foot-5 to win the event. The previous mark of 6-4 1/4 was set by Brad Massman in 1995, according to Conzelman.
The Dogies also earned a state qualification in the boys 4x100 relay. The quartet of Hill, Dane Crabtree, Jaden McGuire and Collin McConkey won the race in 44.91 seconds.
Newcastle’s boys team dominated several sprint and relay events throughout the meet. McConkey placed third in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, while McGuire finished fifth in the 100 and fourth in the 200. Adam Butler claimed the title in the 110 hurdles and finished runner-up in the 300 hurdles.
The Dogies also won the 4x400 relay in 3:44.65 and finished second in the sprint medley relay.
In the field events, Dustin McCarthy finished second in the 110 hurdles and added third-place finishes in the triple jump and high jump. Simon Bau cleared 12-1 to finish second in pole vault, while Connor Kitch took fifth in both the discus and shot put.
The Lady Dogies were led once again by standout junior Adalyn Olson, who swept all three of her events. Olson won the 100-meter dash in 12.60 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 27.58 and the long jump with a leap of 17-6 1/2.
Newcastle also earned several runner-up finishes on the girls side. Anika Oleson placed second in the triple jump, Madalyn Francis took second in pole vault and Sydney Pederson finished second in shot put.
The Lady Dogies’ 4x100 relay team of Oleson, Hana Alexander, Brystal Sweet and Josie Smith placed second in 54.42.
Conzelman noted the overall depth of the team’s performance, saying Newcastle athletes recorded 13 season-best marks across the boys and girls squads.
The 3A East Regional meet begins Friday in Glenrock. Athletes who finish in the top eight of individual events and top four of relays will qualify for the state meet, though pre-qualified athletes must still compete at regionals.
