Poor Shooting in First Half Dooms Pokes in Loss at Colorado State

Rams knock down 14 threes in game
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Feb. 15, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowboys could not overcome cold shooting in the opening frame and made triples by Colorado State in an 88-53 loss to the Rams on Saturday afternoon inside Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo. The Cowboys opened the contest going 1-of-11 from the field and finished the afternoon shooting 37.7 percent.
“It is extremely frustrating, we told our guys two aren’t touchdowns and you can’t give up any threes,” UW head coach Sundance Wicks said. “The effort wasn’t good enough tonight and we need a response to take the next step.”
The Pokes were held to 37.7 percent from the field in the contest and recorded only six makes in the contest. The Rams finished shooting 60.7 percent from the field and 58.3 from behind the arc with 14 makes. The Rams dominated the glass at 34-26 and held Wyoming to 14 points in the paint.
The Cowboys were led in scoring by Obi Agbim with 15 points for his 21st game in double-figures this season. He has hit three or more triples in 12 games this season. Dontaie Allen added 15 points for his ninth game in double-figures this season. He tied a season-high with five made baskets.
Turnovers hindered the Pokes early with the Rams knocking down a trio three-pointers for an early 9-0 lead in the first three minutes. Agbim stopped the run with a three-pointer. The Cowboys went scoreless for over three and a half minutes with the Rams building a 18-3 lead.
Wyoming went on a 5-0 run with a jumper from Nesbitt and a triple from Matija Belic, but the Rams would finish the half knocking eight three pointers to take a 44-19 lead into the half. Wyoming did finish the half making four shots, but a Nique Clifford three closed the half for the Rams.
Allen added a free throw and a triple to make it a 44-23 game in the early goings of the second half. Agbim added a Fastbreak layup off a steal for a 19 points game with just over 17 minutes left. Jordan. Nesbitt and Agbim added buckets for a 46-29 game with 16 minutes left.
The Rams went on a 7-0 run using the three ball for a 52-29 lead with 14 minutes left. The Rams made five-straight three pointers to take a 64-39 lead halfway through the half. The Rams made 10-straight shots and later built a 76-48 advantage and went on to take the contest 88-53.
The Rams were led by Clifford with 22 points. He went 8-of-9 from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds for the double-double. Kyan Evans added 15 points and four assists.
Wyoming returns to the Arena-Auditorium opening a two-game homestand starting with Air Force on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
