CHEYENNE (WNE) – Cheyenne Police have arrested 20-year-old Airman Jadan Orr for voluntary manslaughter in connection with a shooting death early Saturday morning at the Sundance Apartments, located at 215 Walterscheid Blvd.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Cheyenne Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired at the south Cheyenne apartment complex, according to a notice CPD posted to its Facebook page.

Several people in front of the apartment building attempted to render medical aid to a 23-year-old male who had been shot, however he was ultimately declared dead on scene, according to the CPD.

Detectives, said Orr had been drinking with friends at an apartment for the majority of the night. Around 3:30 a.m., Orr went into a bedroom in the apartment with two friends.

At some point, according to detectives, Orr picked up an AK-47 in the room, charged it and fired it through the wall into the living room, striking the victim in the torso.

The incident involved unit personnel from the 90th Missile Wing at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, which the wing’s public affairs unit acknowledged in a news release sent out late Saturday afternoon, noting that the incident occurred while the personnel were offbase and off-duty.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and teammates affected by this tragic loss,” said Col. Terry Holmes, 90th Missile Wing Commander, in the release. “We are fully supporting the investigation and remain committed to taking care of our airmen and their families during this extremely difficult time.”

The release did not confirm whether the victim or anyone else present were airmen.

The victim's information will not be released until the family is notified. This incident remains under investigation, and any updates will be provided as they become available.

CPD is leading the investigation with the full cooperation of the base. Both CPD and the 90th Missile Wing reported that there is no further risk to the public at this time, as the firearm and all involved individuals are accounted for and in contact with police.
