People Quit Listening Before He Finishes Speaking
Many believers stop listening before God finishes speaking. This post reminds us to handle His Word carefully and stay long enough to hear the Spirit’s full truth.
We live in a world that wants God in soundbites. A verse here, a promise there, just enough to post or repeat before moving on. But God doesn’t speak in slogans. He speaks in truth that takes time to hear. Too many open their Bible looking for comfort instead of correction, or for quick answers instead of the quiet work of conviction. The Spirit still teaches, but only to those who stay long enough to listen.
Paul told Timothy, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). The phrase “accurately handling” literally means to cut straight—to make a clean, direct path. That’s what teaching and studying God’s Word should be: straight, honest, no trimming to make it fit what we already want to believe.
Sadly, much of today’s teaching twists Scripture to match popular opinion. It’s easier to give people what they like than to give them what they need. But the truth doesn’t bend to culture, feelings, or even tradition. Paul also said, “We have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience” (2 Corinthians 4:2). That means we’re not to manipulate Scripture for our own gain or to soften conviction—it’s to be handled with reverence and honesty.
If you teach, preach, or share God’s Word, your calling is to tell it straight, even when it stings. If you listen, your calling is to stay long enough to hear the whole truth, not just the part that feels good. The Spirit still speaks through the pages of Scripture, but too many quit listening before He finishes speaking.
