One22 opens gas, grocery program for furloughed federal workers
JACKSON (WNE) — A Jackson nonprofit has created a program to support furloughed federal workers.
Responding to the government shutdown, One22 Resource Center launched “Relief for Federal Workers” to assist people who are furloughed or facing paused paychecks. The program offers a $250 stipend in the form of a gift card to cover essential costs like gas and groceries.
Full-time, year-round federal employees who live or work in Teton County qualify. They can apply at TinyURL.com/one22wrkrs.
The application will stay open for 10 days after the government reopens.
As of press time Friday, the Senate remained deadlocked, with no indication as to when that would change.
“Our community is fortunate to have outdoor recreation opportunities, travel security and other services that make living here worthwhile and feasible, and we owe our thanks to the civil servants who make this possible,” Executive Director Sharel Lund said in a statement. “During a time of unpredictable hardship and divisive rhetoric, we hope that these simple stipends can ease the strain that federal employees are facing.”
Other assistance may be available through One22’s food and financial assistance programs. Anyone interested in options through the nonprofit can call 307-739-4500 or visit One22JH.org.
