One dead after Cheyenne shooting
CHEYENNE (WNE) — Officers continue to investigate the death of an 18-year-old male who was fatally shot Wednesday night in the 600 block of Ridgeland Street in northwest Cheyenne.
The police arrived on scene at approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday and located the 18-year-old with an apparent gunshot wound. He was declared deceased, according to the Cheyenne Police Department.
According to statements gathered by police, the 18-year-old and two of his friends arrived at a residence on Ridgeland Street to buy a firearm from a 16-year-old male.
During the encounter, a physical altercation occurred between the two that escalated into gunfire, according to police.
Officers contacted several persons of interest, and later updated initial social media posts about the incident, stating that CPD believes it was an isolated incident, with no threat to the public.
Per the Facebook post, officers remained in the area as the investigation was ongoing, and residents were told to expect a police presence throughout the evening. At this time, an arrest has not been made.
This case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department’s Detective Bureau. The Laramie County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the decedent at a later time.
