After breaking a 46-year-old school record last week, sophomore Adalyn Olson broke her week-old record in the 100 Meter Hurdles on Friday in Sundance. Her new record stands at 15.49 seconds.

“Adalyn was seeded first going in, but she was being pushed through the whole thing,” head coach Matt Conzelman began. “She was feeling good the whole day and executed her race really well.”

Olson also swept all four of her individual events, finishing first in the 100 and 200 Meter races, first in Long Jump and first in the hurdles. Not only did she take the top prize, she did so with personal records in three of the four events, missing a personal best in the 100 Meter Dash by just five-one-hundredths of a second.

“She started the day with the Long Jump and she hit that big one, which was about a foot further than she jumped before,” Conzelman said. “She was just feeling it all day, so that was great.”

The rest of the Dogies also had a great day at the Bulldog Invite where the Dogie men finished first as a team, while the women came in second. There were four season bests for the men and nine for the women, and Dogies won eight individual events and one relay.

“It was a beautiful day, though there was some wind and it did get a little warm,” Conzelman said. “It was good that they went in there to compete and the kids just really brought it.”

After Olson, Collin McConkey racked up the next best finishes in his events. The junior broke the tape in the 100 Meter and 200 Meter races, and was part of the 4x100 Meter Relay team, which included Eli Morrill, Drew Conzelman, and Sam Scribner, who edged out Moorcroft to take first place by 6/10 of a second.

“The 4x1 was a great race, and it was a battle,” Conzelman said. “When Collin got the baton he was in third place, but he made up ground and got past Sundance and Moorcroft in the anchor leg. It was pretty exciting!”

Scribner re-punched his ticket to the 3A state meet in the pole vault, soaring over the bar at 12 feet, which matched his personal best and earned him second place in that event.

“Sam has hit six feet before in the season,” Conzelman said. “He was so close to 12-06 though. He just caught his heels, so I’m excited to see what he can do at regionals and state.”

Aspen Bloom went into the 1600 Meter run seeded fifth, but the senior showed what she is made up of as she cruised to a 15-second victory over the rest of the field with a time of six minutes.

“This is the time we want them peaking,” Conzelman said. “We’ll back off just a little bit this week, but get them prepped for regionals this weekend.”

The 3A East Regional track meet gets under way Friday in Buffalo and will culminate on Saturday. Conzelman is anticipating a little cooler weather for the weekend, but is still looking forward to getting a few more athletes into the state meet, given that the top four relay teams and top eight finishers of individual events at the regional meet can punch their ticket to Casper.
