SCC football vs Western Christian, IHSAA Class 1A First Round Playoffs - Oct 21, 2022
For the seniors within the South Central Calhoun football program, it's an end of a long journey. While it's not the ending that they wanted, there are memories made along the way that will stick with them for the rest of their days.
The Titans' bumpy season concluded in the First Round of the Iowa High School Athletic Association's Class 1A State Football Playoffs, falling to Western Christian via a 36-18 final score on Friday, Oct. 21 at Hesla Field in Hull.
Trailing 14-6 at halftime, SCC couldn't fend off a 14-point third quarter surge from the Wolfpack. However, the Titans kept battling all throughout the game, even until the contest's final minutes,
SCC closes its 2022 campaign with a 4-5 overall record, while Western Christian advanced to the Round of 16 in the Class 1A tournament. The Wolfpack (7-2) was placed into Pod A by the IHSAA on Saturday, Oct. 22, and will face Aplington-Parkersburg (8-1) at 7 p.m. next Friday (Oct. 28) at Ed Thomas Field in Parkersburg.
Junior Keegan Soard led the Titans, catching six passes for 115 yards. On defense, Soard reeled in an interception.
Quarterback Gavin Batta went 17-of-28 for 294 yards and one touchdown, rushed for 10 yards on eight attempts. Senior Chance Roeder caught four passes for 57 yards.
Junior Brock Nattress paced the Titans' backfield with 29 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. Nattress also hauled in three passes for 53 yards. Senior Tyler Lightner caught two passes for 51 yards and one trip to the endzone.
