SCC football vs Woodward-Granger - Oct. 7, 2022
Over the past four seasons, the South Central Calhoun football team's senior class enjoyed a wealth of success. While their final moments walking down those final 100 yards on their home turf didn't provide favorable results, they can still harbor splendid memories that they will carry on forever.
On Senior Parents Night, the Titans couldn't quite contain Woodward-Granger's passing game, before falling in a 49-20 decision in a Class 1A-District 2 tilt held on Friday, Oct. 7, at Titan Stadium in Lake City.
The Titans held a narrow 7-6 lead, and even got close to the Hawks with several opportunities. However, SCC couldn't convert crucial fourth downs to keep up with the Hawks.
Due to their second straight setback, SCC dipped down to 2-2 district mark and 3-4 overall. The Titans also have to settle for third place in the district's playoff pecking order, starting their potential postseason run on the road.
Woodward-Granger took command of second place with a 3-1 district record and 4-3 overall.
Leading the way for SCC was senior Dominik Kistler, who rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Kistler also recorded one reception for 45 yards.
Senior Chance Roeder snagged two passes for 53 yards. Sophomore Mike Trott gained 28 yards and a trip to paydirt in the game's closing moments, while junior Brock Nattress rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
Junior quarterback Gavin Batta went 4-of-7 for 112 yards.
On defense, junior Keegan Soard hauled in an interception and a fumble recovery, and sophomore Caleb Juhl picked up an INT. Junior Naylan Gulbranson also reeled in a fumble recovery.
Next up for the Titans is a road trip eastbound, taking on Belmond-Klemme for both teams' regular season finales, set for 7 p.m. next Friday at Faris Field in Belmond.
