SCC football vs. Eagle Grove - Sept. 23, 2022
Propelled by a huge third quarter, the South Central Calhoun football team overcame the drizzle and unfamiliar settings before defeating Eagle Grove, 49-14, in a soaked Class 1A-District 2 matchup held on Friday (Sept. 23) at Gene Hinrichsen Field in Eagle Grove.
Down 8-6 at halftime, the Titans rattled off a 30-point run to run away with their second district victory.
Junior Zach Trott had a stellar showing, snagging four passes for 50 yards and touchdown while rushing another score. Trott also had a quarterback sack against the Eagles.
Teammate Brock Nattress got SCC started, thanks to an 89-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the second quarter. Nattress also rushed for another touchdown.
Junior quarterback Gavin Batta went 5-of-14 for 82 yards and two touchdown passes. Batta also scored on a two-point conversion.
With the victory, SCC improved to 3-2 overall with a 2-0 district record. Eagle Grove fell to 0-2 in district, 1-4 overall.
Next up, the Titans are in for a test, facing off against South Hamilton, set for 7 p.m. next Friday (Sept. 30) at Taylor Field in Jewell. The Hawks (4-1, 2-0 in district) defeated Woodward-Granger with a 38-14 final score this past Friday.
