SCC football vs. Emmetsburg - Sept. 9, 2022
It was one of those rare rough outings for the South Central Calhoun football team, as the Titans fell to Emmetsburg via a 63-28 final score on Friday evening at Duane Twait Field in Emmetsburg.
The Titans fell to a rare 1-2, which is the first time that SCC has started the season below the .500 mark since 2013. The E-Hawks picked up their first win of the season, after beginning their campaign with losses to Algona and Southeast Valley.
Despite junior wideout Keegan Soard's eight catches for 239 yards and four touchdowns, SCC couldn't quite bottle up Emmetsburg's Ryan Brennan and Cade Shirk in the nondistrict matchup. Before leaving the game due to an injury, junior quarterback Gavin Batta went 12-of-20 for 228 yards and three touchdowns.
What also doomed SCC was turnovers, with three interceptions and one lost fumble, compared to Emmetsburg's one lost fumble.
Next up for SCC is Homecoming, where they will host Manson-Northwest Webster in the first game of the Class 1A-District 2 slate. The Battle of Calhoun County will kick off at 7 p.m. next Friday at Titan Stadium in Lake City.
The E-Hawks will take on West Sioux next Friday in Hawarden.
