Summer is drawing to a close for Newcastle Middle School students, and a new school year awaits.
Principal Tyler Bartlett told the News Letter Journal that the school expects to have about 200 students this year: about 60 sixth-graders, 70 seventh-graders and 70 eighth-graders.
All students must register with the district online, at wcsd1.org/apps/pages/Online_Registration, and complete forms, Bartlett said in a letter to families. If they have already completed registration in a previous year, they can log in to their existing accounts, and if they can’t remember their log-in information, they can contact the office or email Brandi Evenson, at evensonb@wcsd1.org.
The online registration process helps the office have everyone’s current contact information, and it must be completed before the district can provide a student with a laptop or internet access. Families can also use computers in the NMS office if they can’t do it at home or if they need help, he explained. Students who are new to the district must also go to the middle school office to complete registration.
Bartlett said sixth-graders and new students should make sure to attend the “short and sweet” New Student Night, which will run from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 14. An informational meeting with Bartlett will follow, at 6 p.m., in the Crouch Auditorium.
“It’s a great opportunity to see the school, meet some teachers and hear what we’re all about at NMS,” Bartlett told the NLJ.
Sixth-graders will have a “jump start” first day of school on Aug. 19. Decker’s and Woody’s will help with food, and Pinnacle Bank will grill food for sixth and ninth graders (who are also having a jump start) that day, according to Bartlett. School starts Aug. 20 for seventh-graders and eighth-graders.
The NMS office is open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays and families can call 307-746-2746, email or stop by the office if they need help. Parents can also sign up for text message alerts from the district by texting “Yes” or “Y” to 67587.
Bartlett said in his letter to families that they should also check their email and the school’s Facebook page for information and updates.
“We’re excited for another year!” Bartlett told the NLJ.
