‘Night at the Museum’ — UMS to host student showcase
The community is invited to the first Upton Middle School “Night at the Museum,” a student-led showcase highlighting history, research and personal storytelling.
The event will be held Tuesday, April 28, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the UMS gym, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
Organized by eighth grade students, according to middle school English teacher Matthew Parsons, the program serves as a culminating project connecting multiple subjects, including English, social studies, science and math. Students will present artifacts tied to their family histories — each pre-dating 1957 — and explain how those items relate to broader themes such as Wyoming history, the Cold War and the Space Race.
Each student has interviewed family members, researched the historical significance of their artifact and developed a cross-curricular presentation to share with the public.
Attendees can expect museum-style exhibits, with students acting as curators to guide visitors through their displays and research.
The event is free and open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend and support the students’ work.
