NHSFR to return to Gillette in 2027

GILLETTE (WNE) — Gillette will host the National High School Finals Rodeo in 2027.

It was supposed to be held in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the Sandhills Global Event Center. But Tuesday, the National High School Rodeo Association said that after careful consideration, it had decided to move the 2027 NHSFR to Gillette in what it believes is "the best move for our members and our association."

Cam-plex will host the NHSFR from July 11-17, 2027. It already is scheduled to host the NHSFR in 2028 and 2029.

Cam-plex Executive Director Aaron Lyles said he didn't try to book the event while it was still committed to Lincoln, but rather "we positioned ourselves to be able to say yes to the opportunity if the call ever came." 

Lincoln has more indoor facilities than Cam-plex, but its acreage is about one-third of Cam-plex's size, which can make it more difficult to "adjust when issues arise." 

"The event has outgrown its space there," Lyles said.

Media in Lincoln, Nebraska, reported that the NHSRA's decision to pull out was not based on a lack of satisfaction. Rather, it was the size of the venue.

Cam-plex first hosted the NHSFR in 1993, and 2027 will mark its 14th time hosting the event.

This announcement comes just a few days after the International Pathfinder Camporee announced it would not be returning to Gillette in 2029.
