NEWCASTLE CITY COUNCIL
CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS
MINUTES
SPECIAL MEETING
MONDAY, DECEMBER 28, 2020

Council President Don Steveson called this Special Meeting of the Newcastle City Council to order at 6:00 p.m.  Those present were President Steveson; Council members Roger Hespe, Ann McColley, Tom Voss and Michael Alexander.  Councilwoman Pam Gualtieri was absent.  Also present were Department Heads City Police Chief Sam Keller, City Attorney Michael Stulken and Clerk/Treasurer Greg James.
The sole purpose of this Special Meeting was to discuss and vote on the bid from Motorola for replacing the dispatch hardware and software and radio equipment in the amount of $759,584.00. Chief Keller was asked his thoughts on the matter and he responded the system is antiquated and will likely experience failure in the future.
Tom Voss moved to accept the bid. The motion died for lack of a second. Michael Alexander moved, seconded Roger Hespe to reject the bid. Roger Hespe noted the recognition the equipment may be in tough shape, but not prudent to spend that amount at this point. Tom Voss asked if the bid could be split and accept only the radio portion of the bid. Mr. Stulken replied the bid cannot be separated. Upon vote, the motion to reject the bid passed unanimously.
Conducting no further business, President Steveson adjourned the meeting at 6:09 p.m.
Don Steveson, President
