“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”Romans 15:13

This verse is a beautiful prayer from Paul. He’s asking that believers be filled with joy and peace through their faith, showing just how central the Holy Spirit is to our walk with God.

Paul calls Him the “God of hope.” That tells us where our hope comes from. It’s not from the world. It’s not based on what we see or feel. Our hope is rooted in who God is and in His promises that never fail.

He also prays that we’d be filled with all joy and peace—not just a little. These are fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23), and they grow stronger the more we trust Him. Joy doesn’t come from a perfect life, and peace doesn’t mean everything’s easy. It means we know who holds it all together, even when we don’t.

That little phrase, “in believing,” is key. Faith opens the door. As we trust in God, He pours in joy and peace. And then comes the result: abounding hope. Not a small hope. Not a shaky, wishful kind of hope. But an overflowing, Spirit-filled hope that keeps us steady no matter what we’re walking through.

The Holy Spirit gives us strength. He reminds us of God’s Word. He keeps our hearts pointed toward heaven.

Romans 15:13 reminds us of what we have when we trust God: real joy, deep peace, and a living hope—all made possible through the power of the Holy Spirit.
