PULLMAN, Washington (9/10/24) – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team opened its season at the Palouse Collegiate on Tuesday. Student-athletes played 36 holes at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

The Cowboys acquitted themselves quite well. With 18 holes yet to play, they sit in tie for third as a team with a team score of 16-under.

“It was a good solid day,” head coach Joe Jensen said. “We had good solid rounds. The guys played well. Obviously, some of them played really well. This is a good way to start the fall.”

Kristof Panke represented one of the obvious ones that played really well, as he sits in a tie for third at 132 (-10). He backed up an opening-round 67 (-4) with a second-round 65 (-6). Panke’s card featured 10 birdies and an eagle.

Jaren Calkins sits in a tie for 11th at 137 (-5). He was very consistent, carding a first-round 69 (-2) and a second-round 68 (-3). After 36 holes, Calkins has 11 birdies to his name.

Patrick Azevedo logged a nearly identical scorecard. He registered matching 69s (-2) for a 138 (-4), which positions him in a tie for 20th, as he’s playing as an individual.

Damon Vilkauskas started fast en route to his two-round total of 139 (-3). He shot a 67 (-4) in Round 1 before finishing with a 72 (+1), which puts him in a tie for 28th.

Davis Seybert and Brody Lied each carded a 144 (+2) and are in a tie for 60th. They each accomplished their scores with matching 72s (+1).

“There’s a model to playing well,” Jensen said. “It comes from doing all the little things and following our process and our practice habits and how we do things. It culminates with playing good rounds and playing good tournaments.”

The third and final round gets underway Wednesday at 8:45 a.m.
