MARICOPA, Arizona (3/30/25) – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team is at its home away from home this week. The Pokes host the Cowboy Classic at AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.

Southern Dunes is a par-71 layout that stretches 7,546 yards. Thirty-six holes are scheduled to be contested on Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the final 18 taking place Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

It’s the largest field Wyoming has seen this spring at 23. In addition to the Cowboys, Gonzaga, Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, Southern Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley, Air Force, UT Arlington, Wichita State, Cal State Northridge, Weber State, Kansas, Cincinnati, Northern Colorado, Long Beach State, Iowa State, Pacific, Arkansas State, Grand Canyon, San Diego, USC and St. Mary’s are set to tee it up.

The Pokes are fresh off their best performance of the season. They placed runner-up as a team at the Duck Invite this past week with a pair of guys in the top five. Kristof Panke took second and Jaren Calkins was fifth.

It represented Panke’s third top-five finish of the season and first of the fall portion of the schedule. It was Calkins’ second top-five of the year and fourth top-10 finish.

Wyoming will be looking for a bounce back of sorts at this tournament. The Pokes placed 21st last season but have had success in recent memory with three top-10 finishes in the last five years.

Following the Cowboy Classic, the Pokes close out the regular season in Columbia, Missouri. They participate in the Tiger Intercollegiate on April 7-8 before taking a break until the Mountain West Conference Championships that run from April 25-27 in Creswell, Oregon.
