Men’s Golf Opens the 2026-27 Season at the Ram Masters Invite

LARAMIE, Wyoming (9/9/26) – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team commences its season this week. The Cowboys compete in the Ram Masters Invite on Thursday and Friday at the Fort Collins Country Club.

The Pokes enter 2026-27 fresh off one of their finest seasons of note. They took fifth at the Mountain West Conference Championships, matching their best such finish in school history. Part of that was Brody Leid placing fourth, which tied the third-best conference finish in program history, while also being the second-best Mountain West individual finish in school history.  

Leid and most of the other elements return this season. Freshmen Kellen Ball, Brody Knowlton, Conner Scheich and Austin Barry are all a year older. Transfer Jack Newton – who was part of a national championship team last year with Oklahoma City University – also enters the fray.

“I really like the group,” head coach Joe Jensen said. “The team camaraderie is some of the best I’ve ever had. They’re really good people that do well in school, work hard and are talented. But we have work to do.”

The work starts in Fort Collins at a familiar tournament. The recent memories may not be pleasant ones, but they were evidence of the great strides the squad made in 2025-26.

Wyoming finished in a tie for last during the 2025 Ram Masters Invite. Eight months later the Cowboys were enjoying one of their best conference finishes ever.

“We went from being in last, by a wide margin, to in the conversation at the conference championship,” Jensen said. “It was one of the most rewarding coaching years of my career.”

Leid boasted a scoring average last year of 71.7. It was the fifth-best single-season mark in program history. Knowlton wasn’t far behind him, owning a scoring average of 72.3, which tied for 16th-best in school history.

Those two spearhead the lineup, but the others have shown flashes. Ball finished last year with a scoring average of 74.3, while Scheich and Barry laid claim to scoring averages of 74.4 and 78.4, respectively.

Thursday’s action begins at 8 a.m. with 36 holes to be competed on Thursday. The remaining 18 holes will be contested on Friday.
