Men’s Golf Moves Up During Day 2 of the Falcon Invite
Calkins Vaults Up into a Tie for Fourth
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (9/22/24) – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team moved up during Day 2 of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The Pokes now sit in a tie for seventh as a team at 9-over in a tournament being played at Eisenhower – Blue Course.
“We had a good day, an improved day, but we left some shots out there” head coach Joe Jensen said. “I want to keep pushing. While I’m pleased we moved up, I want to see if we can get in the top five and have a nice finish. I just want to stay in rhythm, stay with what we are doing and not get ahead of ourselves and keep pushing.”
Colorado State leads the team standings at 9-under. Colorado State’s Matthew Wilkinson is atop the individual leaderboard at 135 (-9).
Jaren Calkins leads the Pokes at 141 (-3). He vaulted up the leaderboard and is tied for fourth after a second-round 68 (-4).
Calkins’ card was a clean one. He poured in four birdies and filled in the rest with pars and only three other golfers Sunday enjoyed a better round.
Patrick Azevedo’s day was more of a roller coaster, as he now is tied for 15th at 144 (even). He shot a 74 (+2) in Round 2 that featured four birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey.
Kristof Panke bounced back from a difficult Day 1 to fire a second-round 70 (-2) for a two-round score of 147 (+3), which is good enough for a tie for 37th. He boasted four birdies, three in his final nine holes, and just a pair of bogeys.
Damon Vilkauskas is tied for 83rd at 154 (+10) after a Round 2 score of 75 (+3). Brody Leid rounds out the Wyoming golfers after a second-round 77 (+5), which gives him a score of 155 (+11) and that puts him in a tie for 89th.
The third and final round starts Monday at 7:45 a.m.
