LARAMIE, Wyoming (11/5/25) – Men’s golf head coach Joe Jensen announced an exciting addition to the fall golf schedule beginning in 2026-27. The University of Wyoming Oil City Collegiate presented by Diamondback Energy, hosted by Midland Country Club, will hold its inaugural tournament Oct. 12-13, 2026.

“Good events take time, and this is going to be a great event,” Jensen said. “West Texas and Wyoming have a similar feel in terms of the quality of people and lifestyle. It has made sense for us to do something like this, and it has finally come together, and we are extremely excited about it. The accommodations and the hospitality will be phenomenal.”

This Oil City Collegiate will mirror most other tournaments, meaning there will be 36 holes contested on Monday with the final 18 being played on Tuesday. The field will consist of 12 teams and/or 72 players.

Wyoming’s golf program and Texas have quite a few ties. Assistant coach Rick Gasser – who played a big role in securing this event – has a home in Midland, while freshman Brody Knowlton is from Montgomery, Texas.

This’ll mark the third annual tournament hosted by the Cowboys. They also have the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, California, and the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Maricopa, Arizona. Both of those events are played in the spring.
