Men’s Golf Closes Book on Busy Stretch at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite
LARAMIE, Wyoming (9/29/24) – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team is in the home stretch of what has been a busy couple of weeks. The Cowboys compete in the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite in what marks their fourth tournament in less than four weeks.
Colorado National Golf Club – a par 72 course stretching 7,567 yards – hosts the tournament Monday-Tuesday. Thirty-six holes will be contested Monday beginning at 8:15 a.m., while the tournament wraps up Tuesday with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m.
The Pokes have enjoyed tremendous success in recent memory at the Colorado Invite. They’ve finished in the top five four of the last five years and won the tournament in 2022.
“We are going to play light, loose and free, but I would like to be in the conversation late in the day on Tuesday to see if we can win the thing,” head coach Joe Jensen said. “That’s how we are going to prepare, and that’s how we are going to coach, and that’s how we are going to handle things.”
Wyoming has exemplified its depth through three tournaments. Three different guys have paced the Cowboys.
Kristof Panke boasts the best finish this season, taking third at the Palouse Collegiate. Patrick Azevedo tied for 31st at the Ram Masters Invite and Jaren Calkins took fourth at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite.
Following the Colorado Invite, Wyoming concludes its fall schedule in Hawaii. They participate in the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational from Nov. 2-4 in Lahaina, Maui.
