MARICOPA, Arizona (3/31/25) – The University of Wyoming men’s golf hosted Day 1 of the Cowboy Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club on Monday. Not all teams completed the 36 holes scheduled. As it stands, the Pokes sit 12th as a team at 2-under with either two or three holes remaining in Round 2.

“I’m disappointed in our team performance today,” head coach Joe Jensen said. “We came out flat. And we had a good day of preparation yesterday and just didn’t carry that over to today. I want to have one of the better rounds tomorrow. That’s our goal now.”

Iowa State leads the team standings at 23-under. Long Beach State and Pacific round out the top three at 21- and 16-under, respectively.

Jaren Calkins paces the Cowboys in a tie for 27th at 2-under. He fired a steady opening round 71 (-1) that featured a trio of birdies.

Damon Vilkauskas is tied for 58th at 2-over. He had five birdies in an opening round 71 (-1).
