In memory of Bill Morris

By
Dean Butler

Bill Morris, a respected figure in our community, passed away recently. His warmth, kindness and steadfast spirit touched the lives of many, leaving a gift of love and friendship that will be remembered by anyone that knew him.

I met Bill when I was a teenager. He worked for a neighbor, and I had the chance to cowboy with him on several occasions. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but now I realize that if you really want to know someone, you should work with them for a while.

Bill was quiet and soft-spoken, and he was easy to like; I never heard him say a harsh word about anyone. I admired that then, and I still do today; it set a great example for me. He was a good cowboy and a skilled horseman. I believe you can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats his horse, and Bill certainly exemplified that. His gentle demeanor and respect for the animals spoke volumes about his character and values. Though I did not know him for long, those moments spent alongside him taught me the importance of kindness and integrity — lessons that have stayed with me throughout my life.

I have no doubt that the impact Bill had on me was just a glimpse of the effect he had on many others throughout his life. His gentle nature and unwavering kindness likely inspired everyone he met, leaving a trail of encouragement wherever he went. Bill had a unique ability to lift others up, and his presence brought comfort and reassurance.

My heart and prayers go out to Bill’s family during this difficult time. As they endure their grief, may they find comfort in the memories of his kindness and the love he shared with all of us. Bill’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
