Man killed in single vehicle crash on Interstate 90

SHERIDAN (WNE) — A 56-year-old Casper man died Jan. 30 after a single vehicle crash on Interstate 90 east of Buffalo.

The driver, Everett Van Meter, was pronounced dead at the scene. Van Meter was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

On Jan. 30, at approximately 7:28 p.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol Troopers were dispatched to mile marker 88 of I-90 eastbound. Troopers found that a Chevrolet Tahoe K-1500 had been traveling eastbound when it entered the offramp toward Lower Powder River Road.

The Tahoe then left the ramp to the right, entered the ditch and struck a wooden signpost. The driver attempted to steer left to get back on the road, before the Tahoe hit a delineator post, entering a passenger-side leading slide.

The Tahoe slid across the off-ramp to the north before leaving the roadway and rolling. The driver was partially ejected from the front passenger window before the vehicle hit a group of trees and slid downhill. 

This fatal crash brings deaths on Wyoming roadways to eight in 2026.
