Man arrested after allegedly pointing gun at door-to-door salesman

GILLETTE (WNE) — A Gillette man was arrested for aggravated assault Saturday afternoon after allegedly brandishing a gun when a door-to-door alarm salesman showed up at his home.
Police Deputy Chief Brent Wasson said a 22-year-old man told police Saturday morning that Robert Peters, 61, had followed him in a 2018 Chevy truck as he was walking down 12th Street toward Providence Lane. Peters later told police the young man had tried to sell his wife an alarm system.
The man said Peters had brandished a black and gray handgun and pointed it at him, calling him a racial slur and cursing at him while following him in his truck.
Peters' Chevy was found later that day, and police conducted a high-risk stop on the vehicle. His wife was driving the truck at the time, and police spoke with Peters some time later.
Peters denied brandishing a gun, but he did say he’d confronted the young man who had “harassed” his wife while trying to sell her an alarm system.
Police found a black and gray .45 caliber handgun in the truck that matched the salesman’s description, and Peters was arrested.
