By

Week 1

The News Letter Journal has employed award winning photo-journalist Michael Shane Smith to capture images of this year's Budget Session of the Wyoming State Legislature, and we invite you to come back each week to enjoy a slideshow of the action that unfolds below the dome of the Wyoming State Capitol. We are pleased to be able to give you this enhanced ringside seat as the legislature makes history each week. Be sure to check out the updates in the News Letter Journal each week, and visit the Statewide Tab of newslj.com daily for new legislative stories from across Wyoming courtesy of our fellow award winning newspaper members of the Wyoming News Exchange.

This week's slideshow gives you glimpses of Governor Mark Gordon speaking during his State of the State address in the House Chambers to open the 66th Wyoming Legislature Monday February 14, 2022 in Cheyenne, including a shot of Representative JD Williams laughing after the State of the State address and Representative Chip Neiman clapping during Governor Mark Gordon’s address.

You'll see Senator Larry Hicks and Senator Ogden Driskill going over items before the Governor’s State of the State address, as well as Driskill speaking after the address. There's another shot of him laughing with University of Wyoming rodeo coach Beau Clark during a legislative reception for the opening day of the 66th Legislature. There are a number of shots of Driskill, Senator Cheri Steinmetz, Representative JD Williams and Representative Chip Neiman from the opening days of the session, and a few photos of the capital building and the Senate and House Chambers inside.

There is also a photo of  new Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Brian Schroeder taken during an Education Committee discussion of a bill pertaining to critical race theory in Wyoming schools and you will see House Speaker Eric Barlow in action during discussion of another measure on the floor of the House.
