Local support for officers

On Saturday, June 20, Sandy Martin and Team Properties will be holding a fundraiser for the police and other law enforcement personnel. Located at 640 S. Summit Ave., the event will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. After an invocation by Pastor Wayne Wilson of Church on the Hill, lunch will be available.
“We are raising funds for the Peace Officers Association of Weston County,” Martin said. “This will include the adopt-a-dog program if monies are needed. But it’s also for the men and women who are injured in the line of duty.”
Martin said that there would be no restrictions on how these funds are allocated and those decisions will be left to the association. She said they know best how to use the funds.
“What we need to do is to let our officers know that we still stand behind them, especially now.” Martin continued, “We want to do more than say that we are grateful that they are putting themselves on the line for us every day. We have to back up our words with something real.”
For the fundraiser, there are several ways to help. There will be a Clydesdale horse named Mr. Hood available for rides. The suggested donation is $5. A lunch of hamburgers and hotdogs is available, along with a drink and chips, for $5. Lunch starts at 11 a.m. Any officer who comes in uniform will get their lunch for free.
“We are having a huge yard sale,” Martin said, “And we are still taking donations.”
Team Properties is accepting donations at the real estate office. The company would like to have donations by June 18 or 19.
“We need time to price the items. We also would like real sellable items, and we don’t need junk,” Martin said.
Martin asks the community to get involved in this event, which she said is dear to her heart. Plus, she said, it’s a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together positively and make a real difference.
“Please, we need to do this for the officers,” She said, “We have to let them know that we appreciate them and are willing to support them.”
