Lighting up Sunset Street

Levi and Rebecca Tacy have taken Christmas lights to a new level, setting up a two-hour light show at their home. And the family is excited to share the holiday display with the community.
The Tacys jumped at the opportunity last year to acquire a bunch of free Christmas lights through a Facebook post. The collection happened to include everything they needed to set up a light show.
“We have seen many videos of light shows, and we thought it would be fun to provide one for our community,” Rebecca said. “We always tour Newcastle to look at the Christmas lights and wanted to offer something entertaining for the families in our community.”
The two-hour show is on a loop, with lights dancing to various songs including those by Pentatonix, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Alan Jackson, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. The family hopes to add more selections next year, although Rebecca admitted that the song sequencing took the most time to set up.
“It took a lot of work to set up, and we did not even put up all the lights that we have. The software to create the light sequences takes the most time, usually one hour’s work per song,” she said. “We are not experts yet, and there is still a lot of tweaking that we need to do. The first year is a lot of trial and error.”
With the goal of continuing the tradition next year and into the future, Rebecca said that the family hopes to not only add more music to the set but also lights.
To check out the show, head to 107 Sunset St. and tune your radio to 88.1. The set runs from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, including Christmas Eve and Christmas.
“We hope the community likes the show. We have a lot of work to do and only hope to get better,” Rebecca said.
