As the icy storm blasted through Newcastle and the surrounding area on Friday night and Saturday, Nov. 29 and 30, it became clear that anticipated events were not going to take place as scheduled. On Saturday, it was decided early on that the safety of everybody was far more important. As such, Santa’s Workshop, taking place at Team Properties, and the annual Parade of Lights, down Main Street, have been rescheduled.
“We are concerned, especially for the kids’ safety and health,” chamber Director Andy McKay said, “Especially with influenza going around at this time. And with the icy roads and high winds, it’s just not worth the risk.”
McKay said that Santa’s Workshop and the Parade of Lights will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7, at their previously scheduled times. The workshop will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at Team Properties, 640 S. Summit Ave., Newcastle. The Parade of Lights will march down Main Street starting at 6 p.m. So, while Mother Nature may have had her say in the happenings of Newcastle this past weekend, McKay said he is hopeful that this next weekend will more than make up for the delay.
