Kochelaevskaia Advances to Round of 16 at ITA Regional

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Oct. 18, 2024) – Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia led the Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team in day two at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships Friday. The freshman advanced out of the qualifying bracket and won a pair of contests in the Main Draw, advancing to the Round of 16 Saturday.
Kochelaevskaia finished her rained-out match from Thursday by defeating Ida Johansson 6-3 and 6-2 to move to the main bracket. In her Round of 64 match, Kochelaevskaia defeated Utah’s Emma Valletta in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Kochelaevskaia closed the day with an impressive victory over No. 2 seeded Aya El Sayed of Colorado, winning 7-5, 5-7 and 6-4. She will now play her Round of 16 match against UNLV’s Cindy Hu.
Elena Trencheva also picked up a singles win Friday for the Cowgirls. Trencheva defeated New Mexico’s Sofia Taborga 7-5 and 6-3.
