Keeping kids active in summer

Have you had a chance to see the Cody Community Calendar in the Cody Enterprise? You’ll often find a wide variety of activities listed for kids throughout the summer.

With the school year ending soon, many parents are now looking for summer activities, camps, and daycare options for their children. Fortunately, Cody offers numerous choices to keep kids engaged while parents are working.

For younger children through teens, the library hosts weekly events. The Paul Stock Aquatic and Recreation Center also runs the Kidz on the Move summer day camp, providing age-appropriate fun. Additionally, the Cody Center for the Performing Arts has various camps available, including dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, and general performing arts.

If you have a preschooler who will be entering Kindergarten in the 2025-26 school year, consider the two-week Kindergarten Readiness Camp in June. This is a great way to help them prepare for the transition.

Older children who don’t need constant supervision but want to stay active might be interested in the Cody Youth Climbing Camp. This three-day camp has four different sessions and welcomes young people from all over northwest Wyoming who want to experience local rock climbing. The camp focuses on important principles like safety, sustainability, and mutual support.

These are just some of the many programs available for children during the summer, in addition to daycare options.

We encourage all parents to explore these opportunities and help their children stay active and engaged during the summer months, rather than spending too much time indoors with screens. Summer flies by quickly, and it’s a wonderful time to enjoy being active.
