Introducing The Class of 2018: Lanny Reimer
Lanny Reimer was among the group of Newcastle kids that enjoyed kindergarten and grades 1-4 in the ‘old school on the hill,’ moved to Gertrude Burns for fifth grade, then the old junior high for seventh and eighth grades, and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1967. He enjoyed Boy Scouting activities and a work opportunity at the Newcastle Drug with the Kirkpatrick family and Don Porter during high school. He received invaluable inspiration from his mentors, Bill Fassbender and Willis Franz, M.D. during that time frame.
Interest in science and the healing arts guided studies of pharmacy at the University of Wyoming and medicine at the University of Colorado, followed by postgraduate residency training in Family Practice in Sacramento, Calif. He and Connie Voss were friends in high school and college and they ultimately married during their Laramie years.
Lanny wanted to be involved in all aspects of medicine with obstetrics including surgical obstetrics, so practice in a rural location was desirable. He and Connie also wanted to be near their families, so Weston County seemed like a good choice for a practice location. Lanny and Connie returned to Newcastle in 1979 and enjoyed introducing family centered maternity care and Lamaze childbirth education to the patients in the county, as well as establishing the Upton Medical Clinic. Working with Willis Franz for several years was a rewarding and educational experience for Lanny. He also enjoyed serving on the school and hospital boards with other devoted community leaders. Lanny has enjoyed the interaction with his wonderful patients and their families and his excellent medical coworkers in Weston County now for 40 years.
Lanny and Connie’s four children, Crystal, Christopher, Carol, and Michael, also graduated from Newcastle High School.
