The Holy Rocka Rollaz group promises to take concert attendees on an “authentic trip back to the fantastic ’50s” according its biography.
The Minnesota-based trio will grace the Crouch Auditorium stage on May 12 at 7 p.m., the last concert of this season’s Weston County Concert Association lineup. Every year the concert association brings a variety of entertainment to Newcastle, selling memberships that include all local events, as well as concerts and shows in other towns, such as Belle Fourche and Hot Springs in South Dakota
“If it’s classic early rock ‘n’ roll and rockabilly of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash and many more you want, you have found your dream band,” the biography says. “Holy Rocka Rollaz brings back the sound, the look, the memories and nostalgia of one of America’s most treasured eras.”
The group promises to provide family-friendly entertainment because “nothing pleases these rock ‘n’ roll veterans more than seeing different generations enjoy this classic music together.”
“The Holy Rocka Rollaz play with such energy and joy that people of all ages can’t help but pack the dance floor and celebrate,” the biography says. “The trio collectively brings decades of live and studio experience to their shows and music.”
The trio is made up of front man Mark Flora, drummer Matt Alexander and stand-up bassist/vocalist Lisa Lynn. The three musicians have played many stages, including the Minnesota State Fair, Missouri State Fair, the huge Minnesota Street Rod Association Back to the ’50s Car Show, South Dakota State Fair, First Avenue, the historic Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, and soon the Crouch Auditorium stage in Newcastle.
Doors for the concert will be open to nonmembers, although association President Jan Ellis said that the cost will be the same as though the person purchased the membership for the entire season.
“Students are allowed entrance for $5 at any concert, as our board adopted this policy last spring,” Ellis said. “We only sell tickets at the door for “out of county” guests of our members or students.”
Ellis said this structure is the only way the association can continue to bring high-quality entertainment to the local stage at economic prices. Adult memberships are $40 for the season, which Ellis noted is less than concerts in other places and that the membership includes concert options in Belle Fourche, Rapid City and Hot Springs.
The association already has its 2019-20 lineup scheduled, and entertainment lovers are encouraged to get their memberships early and to be ready for four different varieties of shows.
Association board member Ryan Whipple reported that the schedule includes Ball in the House, an R&B/soul/pop and a cappella group; Jason Farnham, a pianist playing music from classical piano to current hits; Kenny Ahern, a family entertainer and former member of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus; and Presidio Brass, a brass quintet.
