ello, everyone, many of you may know me, many of you may not. Nonetheless, I am Avery Chick. I am a senior at Newcastle High School and am currently an intern for everybody’s favorite newspaper, the News Letter Journal.
Just to give some background information on myself, I am a four-sport athlete who participates in cross country, basketball, soccer and volleyball.
Regarding athletics, I plan to further my academic and athletic career at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Ky. As of last week, I have committed to play and have signed to play.
In addition to athletics, I also participate in many academic extracurriculars as well. These clubs/organizations include FBLA, which is short for the Future Business Leaders of America; student council, for which I am the acting senior class president; National Honor Society, for which I hold the position of vice president; and Sources of Strength, in which I am a peer leader.
All of these sports, activities and clubs keep me very busy and, in my opinion, have gone a long way toward developing me into the person I am today.
My internship at NLJ started this year as a part of the NHS internship program, which is run by NHS teacher Alysha Engle. Its goal is to get high-schoolers real, hands-on experience in the work place and to give them valuable lessons in the areas of work ethic and communication.
I am very excited to have this opportunity to work with some amazing people at NLJ and am very excited to see where this will go!
