HELEN FARNSWORTH
April 1, 1932–July 13, 2024
Helen Farnsworth, age 92, entered the arms of our Lord on July 13, 2024, passing of natural causes in Newcastle, Wyoming.
Helen was born on April 1, 1932, to Roy and Myrtle Scruggs in Lead, South Dakota. She was the youngest child in the family and they all knew her as “Babe.” Her father died when she was very young, so she was raised by her mother and step-father, Newton Dillavou.
From there, she lived in Whitewood, South Dakota, and then moved on to live in Newcastle. She went to high school in Newcastle, but did not complete her education there. She married her first husband at a young age and had her first daughter, Johnnie Faye.
Her second marriage was to the love of her life, Les Farnsworth, in 1952. They were married for 45 years at the time of his passing. Together, they had their daughter, Grace Williams, and son, Jim Farnsworth. She and Les moved to Moorcroft, Wyoming, in 1964, where she raised her children. Helen was a perfect role model for her children.
Christianity was very important to her and Les, as they guided their children to know the word of God. She was a great wife, loving mother and grandmother, and the joy of her life was her family.
Helen was always goal oriented and, as her children got older, decided to complete her education, graduating from Moorcroft High School in 1968. She then went on to college to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in education along with many additional credits in college for several years.
She was a dedicated and outstanding teacher for 25 years at Moorcroft Elementary, and after she retired she went on to work as a librarian and a private instructor for individual
children.
Helen enjoyed always being on the go summer camping, traveling and shopping with her family. She also was an avid reader and a great cook. Helen was very ambitious and a hard worker.
She had many friends and was loved, respected and admired by many.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Les Farnsworth; her parents; and her son-in-law, Dick Claar.
A memorial will be applied for scholarships for graduates of Moorcroft High School.
Graveside services were held on Friday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at the Moorcroft Cemetery.
