According to head track coach Matt Conzelman, Dogie Nation had an outstanding showing at the 3A East Regional Track Meet in Buffalo on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Dogies tied for sixth place as a team while the Dogies finished fourth. In addition, there were 11 new state track qualifiers at the meet, which means that 17 athletes will represent NHS this week in Casper.

“It was a great weekend and we had a great first day, with the second day even better,” Conzelman said. “There were some really cool things that happened and a lot of kids really stepped up.”

Once again, school records were broken or matched in four different events. Adalyn Olson continues to get faster, and the sophomore broke the 100 Meter Hurdles record again in both the prelims and the finals of that event, and did so for the first time in the 200 Meter when she broke Amber Fedderson’s 1998 record of 26.29 with her prelim time of 26.20, then she shattered the record with her own 26.07 finish in the finals.

“Adalyn broke the record in both the hurdles and the 200, and she just keeps getting faster,” Conzelman said. “She will have some competition next week, but we’ll see if she can just keep breaking records.”

The 1600 Meter Sprint Medley team of Collin McConkey, Landen Hill, Dane Crabtree and Sam Cunningham ran a 3:45.44 in their third-place, state-qualifying race, which edged out the NHS school record time of 3:45.55 set by Gunner Ramsey, Holden McConkey, Zach Purviance and Tristan Troftgruben in 2021.

Finally, Madalyn Francis matched the school record in the Pole Vault set by Mindy Williams in 2000 when she cleared the bar at 8 feet, 6 inches. Francis also punched her ticket to the state meet in that event with her sixth-place finish.

“It was really cool to see Madalyn tie the school record,” Conzelman said. “She had the wind to her back and that really helped her.”

Lady Dogies who punched their tickets to the state meet include Aspen Bloom, who was seventh in the mile and fourth in the two-mile, Syd Pederson who made the podium in the seventh position in Discus, Anika Oleson with her sixth-place finish in the Triple Jump, and Liliana Cunningham who came in ninth, but fate smiled down upon her.

“We ended up getting one more in than I thought,” Conzelman said. “Liliana ended up ninth in the two mile, but someone dropped out so, as the alternate, she now gets to run it at state this weekend.”

Sam Scribner soared to new heights in the Pole Vault when he cleared 13 feet in his second-place finish. That mark was a foot higher than he has cleared thus far.

“That was awesome for him to hit that, and he just keeps going up,” Conzelman said. “The pit in Buffalo is a little tight and we are expecting better weather in Casper, so I am expecting great things to happen with Sam.”

Jayden Corley punched his ticket in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump where he finished fifth and second, respectively. Eli Morrill finished fourth in the Triple Jump, securing a spot in that event this weekend. Aidan Butler caught air in the Discus throw where he finished seventh with his 120-foot, 11-inch toss. Adam Butler qualified in the 110 Meter Hurdles by finishing fifth, and Dustin McCarthy made it to the state meet with his sixth-place finish in High Jump.

These Dogies will join the already pre-qualified athletes, which include Olson in the 100 and 200 Meter dashes, the 100 Meter Hurdles and Long Jump, CJ Hardy and Hill in the High Jump, McConkey in the 100 and 200 Meter dashes, Scribner in the Pole Vault and Cunningham in the mile and the two mile.

Action begins at Kelly Walsh High School Thursday at 2 p.m. with the final of the 3200 race, and everything wraps up on Saturday afternoon with the 4x400 Relay.
