GUY H. SPEARS JR.: June 10, 1944-Sept. 1, 2026

Guy Spears of Osage, Wyoming, passed away on Sept. 1, 2026, at Weston County Health Services, after a brief illness.

He was born in Loma Linda, California, to Guy H. Spears Sr. and Byrdene (Scoggin) Spears. He grew up mostly in San Bernadine County, California. His parents were both nurses, his father doing private duty nursing. His mother had oversight of at least one nursing home, one out of their own home. His happiest memories were of early years in La Sierra on acreage that allowed he and his brothers to roam, explore, target shoot, ride horses, hunt rattlesnakes and rabbits, and to generally be boys.

After a troubled youth and young adulthood, Guy met his best friend and Saviour, Jesus Christ. From then on his life experienced a transformation that never stopped until his death. Shortly after conversion, he received his General Education Development diploma, then met a man who mentored him in the house painting trade. Guy started his own business and became a successful painter for at least a year. 

Then he felt the Lord’s call on his life and became a literature evangelist, a ministry that was to occupy him for the next 22 years. He worked variously in California, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and New Mexico, distributing and selling Christian and health literature from door to door, and through leads and referrals. 

It was in Colorado that he met his wife, Karen. Together they worked as “LEs” in New Mexico, her home state, then moved to Wyoming in 1994. They’ve made their home in Osage for the past 31 years. 

After retiring from the literature ministry, Guy worked as a salesman for Tri-State Recycling, as a truck driver for the same company, a bus driver, a driver for Schwan’s company, and lately, doing sales contracting for his original boss, formerly of Tri-State Recycling Company.

He loved his Lord and the Bible, memorizing many verses, especially in the book of Psalms. His outside interests were working on cars, especially old ones, and building projects around his property. He loved children, animals, nature, family and friends. God was his constant strength, assurance, and counselor. He was a Christian in the truest sense of the word, a devoted husband, and a witness of the love of God for everyone. He will be dearly missed by all who truly knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; sisters-in-law, Ingrid and Ana Spears; brother-in-law, John Wheeler; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Thelma Ware of Tucson, Arizona, and Carol (John) Wheeler of Athol, Idaho; brothers, Jim (Ana) Spears, of Antelope, California, and Bill (Ingrid) Spears of Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho; a nephew, Wesley Spears; niece, Julie Boucher; and several cousins. He looked forward on the eve of his death to the Second Coming of Christ and the wonderful Resurrection of the dead, where that great family reunion will take place.

Funeral arrangements are with Meridian Mortuary of Newcastle. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
