Grand Teton National Park authorities nab alleged drag racing sports car drivers

JACKSON (WNE) — Four people were arrested and two luxury sports cars were impounded Tuesday after Grand Teton National Park rangers responded to reports of drag racing along Teton Park Road.
Twelve rangers were dispatched following calls about multiple high-end vehicles racing in both lanes of the scenic roadway and creating hazardous driving conditions for visitors, according to park officials.
“This kind of behavior is unsafe, irresponsible, and completely unacceptable in a national park,” Grand Teton Superintendent Chip Jenkins said in a news release. “It puts visitors, staff and wildlife at serious risk.”
Rangers were able to intercept the group and conduct traffic stops at several locations throughout the park, leading to the arrests.
Park roads have reduced speed limits due to frequent wildlife crossings. Grand Teton is home to a range of large mammals — bears, moose, elk and bison — that often cross roads without warning.
The incident remains under investigation, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
