Goshen Library named Best Small Library in America
TORRINGTON (WNE) — The Goshen County Library has earned national recognition after being named the Best Small Library in America by Library Journal, a distinction Library Director Cristine Braddy says belongs as much to the community as it does to the staff.
The award recognizes small libraries that demonstrate exceptional service, innovation and community impact.
“I was very surprised,” she said. “Seven years ago when I started this job, the first thing I said was, ‘We’re going to be the best small library in America.’ When they called and told me
we had won, I about fell out of my chair.”
One of the factors highlighted by the selection committee was the library’s ability to adapt to changing community needs, particularly after Goshen County schools transitioned to a four-day school week. The library expanded Friday programming for children, creating a place for learning and engagement on the extra day off.
Braddy said the committee also recognized the strong support the library receives from the community.
The award comes despite limited financial resources. Braddy noted that Goshen County Library employees are among the lowest-paid library staff in Wyoming, making the national recognition even more meaningful.
“We’ve done so much with so little,” she said. “Our community keeps stepping in when we need
them, and our staff goes above and beyond every day.”
As part of the recognition, the Goshen County Library will be featured on the cover of Library Journal’s August issue, bringing national attention to the Torrington library.
