Gonzalez Highlights Day One of MW Championships with First Podium Finish for the Cowgirls

HOUSTON, Texas (2/19/25) – The University of Wyoming women’s swimming and diving team finished off the first day of the 2025 Mountain West Conference Championships on Wednesday.
The Cowgirl divers kicked off day one with the 1-meter springboard preliminaries this morning, which saw Alicia Gonzalez advance to the finals while Gabriella Haigler and Natalie Six moved on to the consolation finals. Later this evening, Gonzalez became the first Cowgirl to make the podium with a third-place finish in the finals with a score of 308.30. In the consolation finals, Haigler finished with a score of 289.50 while Six finished with 239.05 points.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Cowgirls comprised of Sydney Metzler, Rachael Horne, Kali Franckowiak and Mikayla Moore finished in seventh with a collective time of 1:40.28.
The final event of the day was the 800-yard freestyle relay, in which the Cowgirls, entailing of Tara Joyce, Avery True, Maisyn Klimczak and Franckowiak, finished in fifth place with a time of 7:15.94.
After day one, the Cowgirls are currently in fourth place with 154 points, trailing UNLV, Nevada and San Diego State.
Preliminaries begin tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. for the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle and the 3-meter springboard. The finals will then take place at 5 p.m. tomorrow evening.
