Gonzalez and True Receive Mountain West Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (11/5/24) – Swim and Dive Cowgirls Alicia Gonzalez and Avery True were honored by the Mountain West today as Diver and Freshman of the Week.
Gonzalez has earned back-to-back Diver of the Week awards after receiving the nod from the Mountain West last week as well. This is her second award on the season so far and the sixth of her career as a Cowgirl. At Northern Colorado on Friday, Gonzalez took first on the 3-meter springboard with a zone qualifying score of 291.90 and second on the 1-meter springboard with a 253.28. Against Air Force on Saturday, she swept the boards, taking first in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards with zone qualifying scores of 290.40 and 336.30 respectively.
True is honored as Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career. At Northern Colorado, True won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.14. She also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, just behind teammate and reigning Mountain West champion Tara Joyce, with a time of 1:54.39. True also swam the third leg of the third-place 400-yard freestyle relay team against Air Force, going 52.88 in her leg.
The Cowgirls are in rivalry mode this week as they travel to Fort Collins, Colorado, on Friday to take on Colorado State in Border War action starting at 4 p.m.
