Gonzalez and Hansen Receive Mountain West Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (10/29/24) – A pair of Cowgirls were honored by the Mountain West Conference today, as Alicia Gonzalez was named Diver of the Week and Macey Hansen was named Freshman of the Week.

This is Gonzalez’ fifth career Diver of the Week honor and the first of the 2024-25 season. At Colorado Mesa this weekend, she came in first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 308.03 and second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 265.43, with both being qualifying scores.

At Colorado Mesa, Hansen won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:13.07, which was a whopping 16 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She also won the 500-yard freestyle where she swam a 5:01.59, beating the second-place finisher by 5 seconds. This represents Hansen’s first career Freshman of the Week honor.

Hansen remains undefeated in the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle for the third week in a row. In the Mountain West, she is currently the highest ranked freshman in the 1000-yard freestyle, sitting in 1st. She is also ranked 4th in the 500-yard freestyle and 1st in the 1650-yard freestyle for the conference. Additionally, Hansen is ranked 9th in the 1650-yard freestyle and 50th in the 1000-yard freestyle in all of Division I.

The Cowgirls are back in action on Friday as they travel to Northern Colorado and then host Air Force on Saturday at Laramie High School.
