Gillette experiences three straight days of record high temperatures, including hottest March day ever

GILLETTE (WNE) — Spring is here, and Gillette has wasted no time in warming up.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday all set new benchmarks for the highest temperatures recorded on March 19, 20 and 21, respectively.

Highs of 78 degrees were reported on Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service, both records for those dates.

And Saturday was the hottest March day in Campbell County’s recorded history, hitting a high of 82 degrees. The old March record of 80 degrees was set back in 2004 and tied in 2012.

The highest ever recorded temperature in Campbell County is 110 degrees, recorded all the way back in July 1909.

In general, Gillette is off to a record-breaking year heat-wise. The average temperature of 35.5 degrees is about seven degrees warmer than normal, and the average high of 48.9 degrees is nearly 10 degrees hotter than usual. Both of these marks are Gillette records, according to the National Weather Service.

Things remain dry, with only 0.23 inches of recorded precipitation so far in March, 33% of what’s normally seen. And the 4.1 inches of snow is slightly below the average of 5.8 inches.

For the first two months and three weeks of 2026, there have only been 12 days where any precipitation was recorded.
